The National Ski Patrol requires all patrollers to pass the Outdoor Emergency Care course. This emergency care course was developed in the 1980’s and has since been regularly updated. It is nationally recognized as a standard course for outdoor emergency care in all seasons. The course allows providers to be prepared for more than just ski resort emergencies. Your skills will keep you and others safe when river rafting, mountain biking, and climbing. Outdoor Emergency Care is based on a textbook with online learning tools. The textbook covers anatomy of humans, then transitions to teaching about helping injured guests. A new patroller should expect to spend around 30 hours training in the fall to learn the medical knowledge and skills required to pass the test. |
